Basic Info
Name:Tachibana An
Birthdate:03-21
Bio
__ic;
name; Tachibana An
age; 17
affiliation; Ryuhana (student)
codename; Luminaire

history;

An was born in Kumamoto, Kyuushu, the only daughter and younger child in a modern Japanese household. Her father worked all the time to support his family and most of her raising was done by her mother, paternal grandmother, and great-grandmother. The strongest male influence and role model was her older brother, Kippei, who she loved and admired above all other people.

When An was younger, she cropped her hair short to match her brother's and "borrowed" his clothes frequently. She spent the majority of her childhood tagging along after Kippei and getting herself into trouble with both her parents and the parents of other children in her neighborhood. Even as a little girl, An was headstrong, independent, and adventurous enough to give anyone who watched her a headache after an hour. She was known by the other kids for her bossy streak and unpredictable flashes of temper and as a result, she didn't have many of her own friends growing up.

As she grew older, An eventually grew out of this mindset and behavior though it never vanished completely. By the time her father announced he'd accepted a promotion that would relocate the family to Tokyo, An had grown her hair out and taken to dressing more femininely, even starting a few new trends among the girls in her class. An was a cheerful, friendly girl and a favorite among boys and girls alike.

Her popularity diminished somewhat at her new school, but An was still generally well liked. She was friendly, if somewhat distantly so, and a good senpai, particularly to those less outspoken or outgoing than herself. She also had a bit of a reputation for defending people against bullies and it was during one such incident that her powers manifested for the first time. The classroom dimmed, there was a flash of light, and the bully was knocked back through several rows of desks and across the room.

His clothes were smoking and a scorch mark streaked across the chalkboard she and her classmate had been cleaning. Terrified of what she had just witnessed, the other girl ran out of the room to fetch a teacher and within minutes, the mutant control force arrived to pick up a very shocked An and safely deposit her in a secure location where she couldn't hurt anyone.

Her parents were notified and they disowned her on the spot, upsetting An deeply even through her shock. With nowhere to go or friends who would take her in, An remained in custody until a representative from Ryuhana came to claim her. She spent a week collared in a containment cell, trying to make sense of her situation and what she had done. She didn't know much about mutants other than what she'd heard from her classmates or seen on the news and the idea that she could be one herself and never occurred to her. By the time, An and the few meager possessions she had on her were taken to the mutant school where she's been ever since.

It wasn't until after An was settled at Ryuhana that she learned the boy she had injured broke several bones in his fall. She sent a letter of apology to the family to which she received no answer. After that, An accepted responsibility for her actions and that she was now part of a minority that was hated, even by her own kin, and focused on learning how to control her powers so that she might one day be able to rejoin society. When the cure was announced, An ignored it. There was nothing wrong with her or any other mutant. They weren't diseased nor were they broken and in need of fixing. She accepted herself for who and what she was; the rest of the world could do the same.

Currently, An is in her final year of schooling and set to graduate this spring. She's nowhere near to honing her abilities completely but she's nearing a point where she might be able to return to a normal life in Japanese society without being a danger. Most of her free time outside of class is spent training further in the Danger Room or joining her classmates on the tennis and basketball courts on campus. She also also goes out rather frequently to participate in local amateur sports and karaoke competitions, both official and not.

powers;

(Adapted from Shard:) An has, essentially, power over light. She is able to absorb and store ambient light around her and convert it into concussive force blasts. Similarly, she has the ability to transmute matter into photonic energy. Details for this are as follows:

Current:

- can absorb ambient light within her field of vision (in other words, she has to know it's available to be able to use it)
- can convert low-density matter into photonic energy ( i.e. styrofoam, paper, etc.)
- can store low to moderate amounts of energy without any ill effects (any more than that will result in a high fever, burns, and physical pain)
- release energy in raw, unfocused blasts of varied intensity (her mental and emotional states interfere with her control)
- release light in the form of a bright, inconsistent glow (it's never works precisely the way she wants it to)

Eventually:

- will be able to absorb ambient light from beyond her field of vision via a type of photon sense ( i.e. suck it out of the room next door)
- convert matter of higher densities (she'll never be able to convert matter of really high density though)
- control and finesse will improve
- be able to generate more stable, smoother glows and control their brightness

sample narrative/entry;

Voice Post:

Anybody else getting a headache from those construction guys outside? Or know when construction will be completed? Soon really can't be soon enough but at least, we're not being occupied anymore. See? There's a bright side to everything. And we don't have Brotherhood guys stinking up the place either so that's good, too, right? Right. I've got some freetime later this evening if anyone wants to hit the Danger Room with me or challenge me if they can. <3

(Backdated to when the construction was still going on.)

sample tag;

Sometimes An missed her old school with its rusty water spouts, dusty unused classrooms, and cracked cement floors. The classrooms at Ryuhana while nice and all seemed to have more in common with the headmistress than any school she had ever been to. There was a touch of formality and austerity to the environment that An had never felt completely comfortable in. Rule after rule and restriction after restriction chafed her but a place where she and others of their kind could be safe from their peers was nothing to shake a stick at and for that, An was willing to endure any amount of hokey training or philosophy. It might not be a perfect fit but it was a good fit and her classmates and roommate were nice enough folks she could get along with them without getting herself in over her head too often.

Still, as nice of a place Ryuhana was or how many pictures of acquaintances and people who were friendly with her filled her scrapbook, An couldn't help but think that something or someone was missing.
